สาวตฺถี ฯ กิสฺมึ นุ โข ภิกฺขเว สติ กึ อุปาทาย กึ อภินิวิสฺส เอวํ ทิฏฺฐิ อุปฺปชฺชติ อรูปี อตฺตา โหติ อโรโค ปรมฺมรณาติ (เปยฺยาโล) ฯ
พระนครสาวัตถี. พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสถามว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เมื่ออะไรมีอยู่ เพราะถือมั่นอะไร จึงเกิดทิฏฐิขึ้นอย่างนี้ว่า อัตตาที่ไม่มีรูป เบื้องหน้าแต่ตายแล้วย่อมไม่สลายไป ฯลฯ
เรื่องเกิดขึ้นที่กรุงสาวัตถี พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสถามว่า “ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เมื่อมีอะไร เพราะถือมั่นอะไรเพราะยึดมั่นอะไร ทิฏฐิอย่างนี้จึงเกิดขึ้นว่า ‘หลังจากตายแล้ว อัตตาที่ไม่มีรูปไม่สลายไป’ ฯลฯ อรูปีอัตตาสูตรที่ ๒๐ จบ
