สาวตฺถี ฯ เอกมนฺตํ นิสินฺโน โข โส ภิกฺขุ ภควนฺตํ เอตทโวจ โก นุ โข ภนฺเต เหตุ โก ปจฺจโย เยเนกทา วาโต โหตีติ ฯ สนฺติ ภิกฺขุ วาตวลาหกา นาม เทวา เตสํ ยทา เอวํ โหติ ยนฺนูน มยํ สกาย รติยา รเมยฺยามาติ เตสนฺตํ เจโตปณิธิมนฺวาย วาโต โหติ ฯ อยํ โข ภิกฺขุ เหตุ อยํ ปจฺจโย เยเนกทา วาโต โหตีติ ฯ
พระนครสาวัตถี. ภิกษุนั้นนั่ง ณ ที่ควรส่วนข้างหนึ่งแล้ว ได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคว่า ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ อะไรหนอเป็นเหตุ เป็นปัจจัย ให้มีลมในบางคราว พระเจ้าข้า? พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุ พวกเทวดาชื่อว่าวาตวลาหกมีอยู่เมื่อใด เทวดาพวกนั้นมีความคิดอย่างนี้ว่า ไฉนหนอ พวกเราพึงยินดีด้วยความยินดีของตน เมื่อนั้น ลมย่อมมีเพราะอาศัยความตั้งใจของเทวดาพวกนั้น. ดูกรภิกษุ ข้อนี้แลเป็นเหตุ เป็นปัจจัย ให้มีลมในบางคราว. จบ สูตรที่ ๕๖.

เรื่องเกิดขึ้นที่กรุงสาวัตถี ภิกษุนั้น นั่ง ณ ที่สมควร ได้ทูลถามพระผู้มีพระภาคดังนี้ว่า “ข้าแต่พระองค์ผู้เจริญ อะไรหนอ เป็นเหตุเป็นปัจจัยให้มีลมในกาลบางคราว” พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า “ภิกษุ เทพพวกวาตวลาหกมีอยู่ เมื่อใด เทพเหล่านั้นมีความคิดอย่างนี้ว่า ‘ทำอย่างไรหนอ พวกเราพึงยินดีด้วยความยินดีของตนเอง’ เมื่อนั้น เพราะอาศัยความตั้งใจของเทพเหล่านั้น ลมจึงมี ภิกษุ นี้แล เป็นเหตุเป็นปัจจัยให้มีลมในกาลบางคราว”วาตวลาหกสูตรที่ ๕๖ จบ
