๙. อัคคิสูตร ว่าด้วยโทษของไฟ
ปญฺจิเม ภิกฺขเว อาทีนวา อคฺคิสฺมึ กตเม ปญฺจ อจกฺขุสฺโส ทุพฺพณฺณกรโณ ทุพฺพลกรโณ สงฺคณิกาปวฑฺฒโน ติรจฺฉานกถาปวตฺตนิโก อิเม โข ภิกฺขเว ปญฺจ อาทีนวา อคฺคิสฺมินฺติ ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย โทษ ๕ ประการนี้ มีอยู่เพราะไฟ ๕ ประการเป็นไฉน คือ ทำให้ตาฝ้าฟาง ๑ ทำให้ผิวเสีย ๑ ทำให้ทุรพล ๑ย่อมยังการคลุกคลีหมู่คณะให้เจริญ ๑ ย่อมยังติรัจฉานกถาให้เป็นไป ๑ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย โทษ ๕ ประการนี้แล มีอยู่เพราะไฟ ฯ จบสูตรที่ ๙
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ไฟมีโทษ ๕ ประการ โทษ ๕ ประการ อะไรบ้าง คือ ๑. ทำให้ตาฝ้าฟาง ๒. ทำให้ผิวหยาบกร้าน ๓. ทำให้อ่อนกำลัง ๔. เพิ่มพูนการคลุกคลีด้วยหมู่ ๕. เป็นเหตุให้สนทนาติรัจฉานกถา ภิกษุทั้งหลาย ไฟมีโทษ ๕ ประการนี้แล อัคคิสูตรที่ ๙ จบ @เชิงอรรถ : @ ติรัจฉานกถา หมายถึงถ้อยคำอันขวางทางไปสู่สวรรค์หรือนิพพาน ได้แก่ เรื่องราวที่ภิกษุไม่ควรนำมาเป็น@ข้อถกเถียงสนทนากัน เพราะทำให้เกิดฟุ้งซ่าน และหลงเพลินเสียเวลา (ที.สี.อ. ๑๗/๘๔)
