๔. อัตถสูตร ว่าด้วยธรรมที่เป็นประโยชน์ และที่ไม่เป็นประโยชน์
อตฺถญฺจ โว ภิกฺขเว เทสิสฺสามิ อนตฺถญฺจ ตํ สุณาถ สาธุกํ มนสิกโรถ ภาสิสฺสามีติ ฯ เอวํ ภนฺเตติ โข เต ภิกฺขู ภควโต ปจฺจสฺโสสุํ ฯ ภควา เอตทโวจ กตโม จ ภิกฺขเว อนตฺโถ มิจฺฉาทิฏฺฐิ ฯเปฯ มิจฺฉาวิมุตฺติ อยํ วุจฺจติ ภิกฺขเว อนตฺโถ ฯ กตโม จ ภิกฺขเว อตฺโถ สมฺมาทิฏฺฐิ ฯเปฯ สมฺมาวิมุตฺติ อยํ วุจฺจติ ภิกฺขเว อตฺโถติ ฯ
ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย เราจักแสดงประโยชน์และสิ่งไม่เป็น ประโยชน์แก่เธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงฟัง จงใส่ใจให้ดี เราจักกล่าว ภิกษุเหล่านั้นทูลรับพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้ว พระผู้มีพระภาคได้ตรัสว่า ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลายก็สิ่งไม่เป็นประโยชน์เป็นไฉน มิจฉาทิฐิ ฯลฯ มิจฉาวิมุติ นี้เรียกว่าสิ่งไม่เป็นประโยชน์ ดูกรภิกษุทั้งหลาย ก็ประโยชน์เป็นไฉน สัมมาทิฐิ ฯลฯ สัมมาวิมุตินี้เรียกว่าประโยชน์ ฯ จบสูตรที่ ๔
ภิกษุทั้งหลาย เราจักแสดงธรรมที่เป็นประโยชน์และธรรมที่ไม่เป็นประโยชน์แก่เธอทั้งหลาย เธอทั้งหลายจงฟัง จงใส่ใจให้ดี เราจักกล่าว ภิกษุเหล่านั้นทูลรับสนองพระดำรัสแล้ว พระผู้มีพระภาคจึงได้ตรัสเรื่องนี้ว่า ธรรมที่ไม่เป็นประโยชน์ อะไรบ้าง คือ ๑. มิจฉาทิฏฐิ ฯลฯ ๑๐. มิจฉาวิมุตติ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า ธรรมที่ไม่เป็นประโยชน์ ธรรมที่เป็นประโยชน์ อะไรบ้าง คือ ๑. สัมมาทิฏฐิ ฯลฯ ๑๐. สัมมาวิมุตติ ภิกษุทั้งหลาย นี้เรียกว่า ธรรมที่เป็นประโยชน์ อัตถสูตรที่ ๔ จบ
