พระสุตตันตปิฎก ขุททกนิกาย เถรคาถา [๑. เอกกนิบาต] ๖. ฉัฏฐวรรค ๖. กุฏิวิหารีเถรคาถา ๔. อุตติยเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระอุตติยเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระอุตติยเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๑๙๑.๕๔| ๔ วสฺสติ เทโว ยถา สุคีตํ ฉนฺนา เม กุฏิกา สุขา นิวาตา ตสฺสํ วิหรามิ อทุติโย อถ เจ ปตฺถยสิ ปวสฺส เทวาติ ฯ อุตฺติโย เถโร ฯ
ฝนตกลงมา มีเสียงไพเราะดังเสียงเพลงขับ กุฎีของเรามุงดีแล้ว มีประตู หน้าต่างมิดชิดดี เราผู้เดียวไม่มีเพื่อนอยู่ในกุฎีนั้น ถ้าท่านปรารถนาจะ ตก ก็เชิญตกลงมาเถิดฝน.
ฝนตกลงมา เสียงดังกระหึ่มคล้ายเสียงเพลงอันไพเราะ กุฎีของเราสบาย มุงบังมิดชิดดี ในกุฎีนั้น เราอยู่(แต่ผู้เดียว) ไม่มีเพื่อน ถ้าต้องการจะตกก็จงตกลงมาเถิดฝน
