๕. สุสารทเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระสุสารทเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระสุสารทเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๒๑๒.๗๕| ๕ สาธุ สุวหิตานํ ทสฺสนํ กงฺขา ฉิชฺชติ พุทฺธิ วฑฺฒติ พาลมฺปิ กโรนฺติ ปณฺฑิตํ ตสฺมา สาธุ สตํ สมาคโมติ ฯ สุสารโท เถโร ฯ
การเห็นสัตบุรุษทั้งหลายผู้เพรียบพร้อมด้วยศีลาทิคุณ ย่อมยังประโยชน์ ให้สำเร็จ เป็นเหตุตัดความสงสัยเสียได้ ทำความรู้ให้เจริญงอกงาม สัตบุรุษทั้งหลาย ย่อมกระทำพาลชนให้เป็นบัณฑิตได้ เพราะฉะนั้น การสมาคมกับสัตบุรุษ จึงยังประโยชน์ให้สำเร็จได้.
การได้พบเห็นเหล่าสัตบุรุษผู้อบรมตนดีแล้วเป็นการดี เป็นเหตุให้ตัดความสงสัยเสียได้ ทำความรู้ให้เจริญงอกงาม เหล่าสัตบุรุษย่อมทำคนแม้ที่เป็นพาลให้กลายเป็นบัณฑิตได้ ฉะนั้น การสมาคมกับเหล่าสัตบุรุษจึงเป็นการดี
