๖. นาคิตเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระนาคิตเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระนาคิตเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๒๒๓.๘๖| ๖ อิโต พหิทฺธา ปุถุอญฺญวาทินํ มคฺโค น นิพฺพานคโม ยถา อยํ อิติสฺสุ สงฺฆํ ภควานุสาสติ สตฺถา สยํ ปาณิตเลว ทสฺสยนฺติ ฯ นาคิโต เถโร ฯ
ในลัทธิแห่งเดียรถีย์ภายนอกพระศาสนานี้ ย่อมไม่มีทางไปสู่นิพพาน เหมือนอริยอัฏฐังคิกมรรคนี้เลย พระผู้มีพระภาคผู้เป็นบรมครู ทรงพร่ำ สอนภิกษุสงฆ์ด้วยพระองค์เอง เหมือนดังทรงแสดงผลมะขามป้อมในฝ่า พระหัตถ์ ฉะนั้น.
ทางแห่งลัทธิอื่นๆ นอกจากพระพุทธศาสนานี้ ไม่ใช่ทางดำเนินไปสู่นิพพาน เหมือนอริยมรรคนี้เลย พระผู้มีพระภาคผู้เป็นพระบรมครู ทรงสั่งสอนภิกษุสงฆ์ไว้เองโดยประการฉะนี้ ดุจทรงชี้ให้เห็นผลมะขามป้อมที่ฝ่าพระหัตถ์ @เชิงอรรถ : @ นิพพาน (ขุ.เถร.อ. ๑/๘๕/๒๘๔)
