๑๒. ทวาทสมวรรค หมวดที่ ๑๒ ๑. เชนตเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระเชนตเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระเชนตเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๒๔๘.๑๑๑| ๑ ทุปฺปพฺพชฺชํ เว ทุรธิวาสา เคหา ธมฺโม คมฺภีโร ทุรธิคมา โภคา กิจฺฉา วุตฺติ โน อิตรีตเรเนว ยุตฺตํ จินฺเตตุํ สตตมนิจฺจตนฺติ ฯ เชนฺโต เถโร ฯ
การบวชกระทำได้ยากแท้ การอยู่ครองเรือนก็ยากแท้ ธรรมเป็นของลึก การหาทรัพย์เป็นของยาก การเลี้ยงชีพของเราด้วยปัจจัย ๔ ตามมีตามได้ ก็เป็นของยาก ควรคิดถึงอนิจจตาเนืองๆ.
การบวชเป็นของยากแท้ เรือนมีการอยู่ครองได้ยาก ธรรมก็ลึกซึ้ง โภคะทั้งหลายก็หาได้ยาก การเป็นอยู่ของพวกเราตามมีตามได้ก็ฝืดเคือง ดังนั้น จึงควรที่จะคิดถึงความไม่แน่นอนอยู่เสมอ
