ให้สำนักงานสถิติแห่งชาติสำรวจตัวอย่างภาวะเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของครัวเรือน เพื่อเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับรายได้ ค่าใช้จ่าย ภาวะหนี้สิน ทรัพย์สิน โครงสร้างของสมาชิก ในครัวเรือน และลักษณะที่อยู่อาศัย ตลอดจนการได้รับสวัสดิการหรือความช่วยเหลือจากรัฐ และการใช้บริการภาครัฐ เพื่อประโยชน์ในการวางแผนพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประเทศ และการกำหนดนโยบายเพื่อการบริหารของหน่วยงานต่าง ๆ ทั้งภาครัฐและเอกชน
