ในสำนักงานการวิจัยแห่งชาติ ให้มีกลุ่มตรวจสอบภายใน เพื่อทำหน้าที่หลัก ในการตรวจสอบการดำเนินงานภายในสำนักงาน และสนับสนุนการปฏิบัติงานของสำนักงาน รับผิดชอบงาน ขึ้นตรงต่อผู้อำนวยการ มีหน้าที่และอำนาจดังต่อไปนี้
(๑) ดำเนินการเกี่ยวกับการตรวจสอบด้านการบริหาร การเงิน และการบัญชีของสำนักงาน
(๒) ปฏิบัติงานร่วมกับหรือสนับสนุนการปฏิบัติงานของหน่วยงานอื่นที่เกี่ยวข้องหรือ ที่ผู้อำนวยการมอบหมาย
