สหกรณ์แบ่งเป็นสองขนาด ดังต่อไปนี้
(๑) สหกรณ์ขนาดใหญ่ ได้แก่ สหกรณ์ซึ่งมีขนาดสินทรัพย์ตั้งแต่ห้าพันล้านบาทขึ้นไป และชุมนุมสหกรณ์
(๒) สหกรณ์ขนาดเล็ก ได้แก่ สหกรณ์ซึ่งมีขนาดสินทรัพย์น้อยกว่าห้าพันล้านบาท ขนาดสินทรัพย์ของสหกรณ์ตามวรรคหนึ่ง ให้พิจารณาจากข้อมูลงบการเงินของสหกรณ์ ในปีบัญชีล่าสุดที่ผู้สอบบัญชีได้ตรวจสอบและแสดงความเห็นแล้ว
