ให้แบ่งสถานีตำรวจออกเป็นระดับ ดังต่อไปนี้
(๑) สถานีตำรวจระดับใหญ่ที่มีหัวหน้าสถานีตำรวจดำรงตำแหน่งผู้กำกับการ
(๒) สถานีตำรวจระดับกลางที่มีหัวหน้าสถานีตำรวจดำรงตำแหน่งผู้กำกับการหรือสารวัตรใหญ่
(๓) สถานีตำรวจระดับเล็กที่มีหัวหน้าสถานีตำรวจดำรงตำแหน่งสารวัตร การกำหนดให้สถานีตำรวจใดเป็นสถานีตำรวจระดับใด ให้เป็นไปตามที่ ก.ต.ช. กำหนด โดยคำนึงถึงปริมาณภาระงาน ความหนาแน่นของประชาชนในเขตรับผิดชอบ จำนวนอัตรากำลัง และ สถานที่ตั้งของสถานีตำรวจประกอบกัน
