วัตถุประสงค์ของสภากาชาดคือ รักษาพยาบาลผู้ป่วยไข้และบาดเจ็บใน เวลาสงคราม ทั้งอาจทำการบรรเทาทุกข์ในเหตุการณ์สาธารณภัยพินาศ โดยไม่เลือกเชื้อชาติ สัญชาติ ลัทธิ ศาสนาหรือความเห็นในทางการเมืองของผู้ประสบภัย
