นิทฺทา ตนฺที วิชิมฺหิตา อรตี ภตฺตสมฺมโท เอเตน นปฺปกาสติ อริยมคฺโค อิธ ปาณินนฺติ ฯ
(เทวดากล่าวว่า) อริยมรรคไม่ปรากฏแก่สัตว์ทั้งหลายในโลกนี้ เพราะความ หลับ ความเกียจคร้าน ความบิดกาย ความไม่ยินดี และ ความมึนเมาเพราะภัต ฯ
นิทฺทํ ตนฺทึ วิชิมฺหิตํ อรตึ ภตฺตสมฺมทํ วิริเยน นํ ปณาเมตฺวา อริยมคฺโค วิสุชฺฌตีติ ฯ
(พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสว่า) เพราะขับไล่ความหลับ ความเกียจคร้าน ความบิดกาย ความไม่ยินดี และความมึนเมาเพราะภัต ด้วยความเพียร อริยมรรคย่อมบริสุทธิ์ได้ ฯ
