เทวดาทูลถามว่า อะไรหนอเป็นที่ตั้งของมนุษย์ทั้งหลาย อะไรหนอเป็นสหาย อย่างยิ่งในโลกนี้ เหล่าสัตว์มีชีวิตที่อาศัยแผ่นดิน อาศัย อะไรหนอเลี้ยงชีพ ฯ
เทวดาทูลถามว่า อะไรเล่าเป็นที่พึ่งของมนุษย์ทั้งหลาย อะไรเล่าเป็นเพื่อนที่ยอดเยี่ยมในโลกนี้ หมู่สัตว์ที่มีชีวิตอยู่บนพื้นดินอาศัยอะไรเล่าเลี้ยงชีพ พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า บุตรเป็นที่พึ่งของมนุษย์ทั้งหลาย ภรรยาเป็นเพื่อนที่ยอดเยี่ยมในโลกนี้ หมู่สัตว์ที่มีชีวิตอยู่บนพื้นดินอาศัยฝนเลี้ยงชีพวัตถุสูตรที่ ๔ จบ
