กึสุ สญฺโญชโน โลโก กึสุ ตสฺส วิจารณํ กิสฺสสฺส วิปฺปหาเนน นิพฺพานํ อิติ วุจฺจตีติ ฯ
เทวดาทูลถามว่า โลกมีอะไรหนอเป็นเครื่องประกอบไว้ อะไรหนอเป็นเครื่อง เที่ยวไปของโลกนั้น เพราะละขาดซึ่งธรรมอะไรจึงเรียกว่า นิพพาน ฯ
เทวดาทูลถามว่า โลกมีอะไรเล่าเป็นเครื่องประกอบไว้ อะไรเล่าเป็นเหตุเที่ยวไปของโลกนั้น เพราะละอะไรได้เล่า พระองค์จึงตรัสว่า นิพพาน พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า โลกมีความเพลิดเพลินเป็นเครื่องประกอบไว้ วิตกเป็นเหตุเที่ยวไปของโลกนั้น เพราะละตัณหาได้ เราจึงกล่าวว่า นิพพาน สัญโญชนสูตรที่ ๔ จบ
