กึสุ สมฺพนฺธโน โลโก กึสุ ตสฺส วิจารณํ กิสฺสสฺส วิปฺปหาเนน สพฺพํ ฉินฺทติ พนฺธนนฺติ ฯ
เทวดาทูลถามว่า โลกมีอะไรหนอเป็นเครื่องผูกไว้ อะไรหนอเป็นเครื่องเที่ยว ไปของโลกนั้น เพราะละเสียได้ซึ่งอะไร จึงตัดเครื่องผูก ได้หมด ฯ
เทวดาทูลถามว่า โลกมีอะไรเล่าเป็นเครื่องผูกไว้ อะไรเล่าเป็นเหตุเที่ยวไปของโลกนั้น เพราะละอะไรได้เล่า จึงตัดเครื่องผูกได้หมด พระผู้มีพระภาคตรัสตอบว่า โลกมีความเพลิดเพลินเป็นเครื่องผูกไว้ วิตกเป็นเหตุเที่ยวไปของโลกนั้น เพราะละตัณหาได้ จึงตัดเครื่องผูกได้หมดพันธนสูตรที่ ๕ จบ
