๙. ปิลินทวัจฉเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระปิลินทวัจฉเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระปิลินทวัจฉเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๑๔๖.๙| ๙ สฺวาคตํ นาปคตํ นยิทํ ทุมฺมนฺติตํ มม ปวิภตฺเตสุ ธมฺเมสุ ยํ เสฏฺฐํ ตทุปาคมินฺติ ฯ ปิลินฺทวจฺโฉ เถโร ฯ
ได้ยินว่า ท่านพระปิลินทวัจฉเถระได้ภาษิตคาถานี้ไว้อย่างนี้ว่า การที่เรา มาสู่สำนักของพระศาสดานี้ เป็นการมาดีแล้ว ไม่ไร้ประโยชน์ การที่ เราคิดไว้ว่าจักฟังธรรมในสำนักของพระผู้มีพระภาคแล้วจักบวช เป็น ความคิดที่ไม่ไร้ประโยชน์ เพราะเมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคทรงจำแนกธรรม ทั้งหลายอยู่ เราได้บรรลุธรรมอันประเสริฐแล้ว.
การที่เราได้มายังสำนักพระผู้มีพระภาคนี้เป็นการมาดีแล้ว ไม่ไร้ประโยชน์ การที่เราได้คิดไว้ว่า จะฟังธรรมในสำนักของ พระผู้มีพระภาคแล้วบวชนี้เป็นความคิดไม่เลวเลย เพราะเมื่อพระผู้มีพระภาคทรงจำแนกธรรมอันประเสริฐทั้งหลาย เราได้บรรลุธรรมนั้นแล้ว
