พระสุตตันตปิฎก ขุททกนิกาย เถรคาถา [๑. เอกกนิบาต] ๑. ปฐมวรรค ๑๐. ปุณณมาสเถรคาถา ๘. วีรเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระวีรเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระวีรเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๑๔๕.๘| ๘ โย ทุทฺทมโย ทเมน ทนฺโต ธีโร สนฺตุสิโต วิติณฺณกงฺโข วิชิตาวิ อเปตโลมหํโส วีตราโค ปรินิพฺพุโต ฐิตตฺโตติ ฯ วีโร เถโร ฯ
ได้ยินว่า ท่านพระวีรเถระได้ภาษิตคาถานี้ ในเวลาภรรยาเก่าไปเล้าโลม เพื่อให้สึก ว่า เมื่อก่อน ผู้ใดเป็นผู้อันบุคคลอื่นฝึกได้โดยยาก แต่เดี๋ยวนี้ผู้นั้นอัน พระผู้มีพระภาคฝึกฝนได้ดีแล้ว เป็นนักปราชญ์มีความสันโดษ ข้ามความ สงสัยได้แล้ว เป็นผู้ชนะกิเลสมาร ปราศจากขนลุกขนพอง ปราศจาก ความกำหนัด มีจิตตั้งมั่น ดับกิเลสและความเร่าร้อนได้แล้ว.
พระวีรเถระผู้ฝึกได้ยาก ถูกพระศาสดาผู้ฝึกทรงฝึกแล้ว เป็นผู้สันโดษ ปราศจากความสงสัย ชนะกิเลสได้แล้ว ปราศจากความขนพองสยองเกล้า มีจิตคงที่ ดับสนิทแล้ว
