๔. สานุเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระสานุเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระสานุเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๑๘๑.๔๔| ๔ มตํ วา อมฺม โรทนฺติ โย วา ชีวํ น ทิสฺสติ ชีวนฺตํ มํ อมฺม ทิสฺสนฺติ กสฺมา มํ อมฺม โรทสีติ ฯ สานุ เถโร ฯ
คุณโยมจ๋า ชนทั้งหลายเขาพากันร้องไห้ถึงคนที่ตายแล้ว ร้องไห้ ถึงคนที่ยังเป็นอยู่ แต่หายหน้าจากไป ส่วนฉันยังมีชีวิตอยู่ ทั้งปรากฏตัวอยู่ เหตุไรคุณโยมจึงมาร้องไห้ถึงฉันเล่า?
