พระสุตตันตปิฎก ขุททกนิกาย เถรคาถา [๑. เอกกนิบาต] ๘. อัฏฐมวรรค ๘. เมณฑสิรเถรคาถา ๖. ปิยัญชหเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระปิยัญชหเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระปิยัญชหเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๒๑๓.๗๖| ๖ อุปฺปตนฺเตสุ นิปเต นิปตนฺเตสุ อุปฺปเต วเส อวสมาเนสุ รมมาเนสุ โน รเมติ ฯ ปิยญฺชโห เถโร ฯ
เมื่อผู้อื่นยกตน ควรถ่อมตน เมื่อผู้อื่นตกต่ำ ควรยกตนขึ้น เมื่อผู้อื่นไม่ ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ ควรประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ เมื่อผู้อื่นยินดีในกามคุณ ไม่ควรยินดีในกามคุณ.
เมื่อเหล่าสัตว์หยิ่งผยองด้วยมานะเป็นต้น พึงประพฤตินอบน้อมถ่อมตน เมื่อเหล่าสัตว์ลดหย่อนความเพียรพยายาม พึงช่วยเขาให้ตั้งอยู่ในความเพียรพยายาม เมื่อเหล่าสัตว์อยู่อย่างผู้ไม่ประพฤติพรหมจรรย์ ก็พึงประพฤติพรหมจรรย์เสียเอง เมื่อเหล่าสัตว์ยินดีในกามคุณ ตนก็ไม่พึงยินดี
