๙. อุตติยเถรคาถา ภาษิตของพระอุตติยเถระ ทราบว่า ท่านพระอุตติยเถระได้กล่าวคาถาไว้ดังนี้ว่า
|๒๓๖.๙๙| ๙ สทฺทํ สุตฺวา สติ มุฏฺฐา ปิยนิมิตฺตํ มนสิกโรโต สารตฺตจิตฺโต เวเทติ ตญฺจ อชฺโฌส ติฏฺฐติ ตสฺส วฑฺฒนฺติ อาสวา สํสารํ อุปคามิโนติ ฯ อุตฺติโย เถโร ฯ
บุคคลได้สดับเสียงแล้ว มัวใส่ใจถึงอารมณ์เป็นที่รัก สติก็หลงลืม ผู้ใดมีจิตกำหนัดยินดีเสวยสัททารมณ์ สัททารมณ์ก็ครอบงำผู้นั้น อาสวะ ทั้งหลายย่อมเจริญแก่ผู้นั้น ผู้เข้าถึงซึ่งสงสาร.
เมื่อบุคคลฟังเสียงแล้ว มัวใส่ใจถึงอารมณ์อันเป็นที่รักอยู่ ย่อมหลงลืมสติได้ ผู้ที่มีจิตกำหนัดนักยังเสวยสัททารมณ์อยู่ สัททารมณ์นั้นย่อมผูกพันเขาไว้ และอาสวะทั้งหลายย่อมเจริญแก่เขาผู้เข้าถึงสังสารวัฏ
