๕. ทุพพลกัฏฐชาดก (๑๐๕) ว่าด้วยช้างกลัวต้นไม้แห้ง (รุกขเทวดาโพธิสัตว์เห็นช้างกลัวตายได้ยินเสียงลมพัดใบไม้แห้งก็วิ่งหนี จึงกล่าวว่า)
พหุมฺเปตํ วเน กฏฺฐํ วาโต ภญฺชติ ทุพฺพลํ ตสฺส เจ ภายสิ นาค กีโส นูน ภวิสฺสสีติ ฯ ทุพฺพลกฏฺฐชาตกํ ปญฺจมํ ฯ ---------
ลมย่อมพัดไม้แห้งที่ทุรพลในป่านี้ แม้มีจำนวนมากมายให้หักลง ดูกร ช้างตัวประเสริฐ ถ้าท่านมากลัวต่อไม้แห้งนั้น ท่านจักซูบผอมเป็นแน่. จบ ทุพพลกัฏฐชาดกที่ ๕.
ลมพัดต้นไม้แห้งที่ผุกร่อนในป่าให้หักลงเป็นจำนวนมาก นี่ช้าง ถ้าเธอยังมัวแต่กลัวต้นไม้แห้งนั้น ก็จักซูบผอมเป็นแน่ ทุพพลกัฏฐชาดกที่ ๕ จบ
