๔. อัมพชาดก (๑๒๔) ว่าด้วยดาบสฉันมะม่วง (ฤๅษีโพธิสัตว์ได้เห็นเหตุที่ดาบส ๕๐๐ อาศัยดาบสผู้สมบูรณ์ด้วยวัตรเป็นอยู่ จึงกล่าวว่า)
วายเมเถว ปุริโส น นิพฺพินฺเทยฺย ปณฺฑิโต วายามสฺส ผลํ ปสฺส ภุตฺตา อมฺพา อนีติหนฺติ ฯ อมฺพชาตกํ จตุตฺถํ ฯ ---------
บุรุษผู้เป็นบัณฑิตควรพยายามร่ำไป ไม่ควรเบื่อหน่าย จงดูผลแห่ง ความพยายาม ผลมะม่วงทั้งหลายที่หล่นให้บริโภคอยู่ก็ด้วยความพยายาม ทั้งนั้น ไม่ใช่ของที่ได้บินมาเลย. จบ อัมพชาดกที่ ๔.
คนฉลาดควรพยายามร่ำไป ไม่ควรเบื่อหน่าย ท่านจงดูผลแห่งความพยายาม ผลไม้มีมะม่วงเป็นต้นที่พวกฤาษีได้ฉัน โดยมิได้ออกปากเนืองๆ อัมพชาดกที่ ๔ จบ
