กองการต่างประเทศ มีหน้าที่และอำนาจ ดังต่อไปนี้
(๑) จัดทำและเสนอแนะนโยบาย ยุทธศาสตร์ และแผนงานด้านสาธารณสุขระหว่างประเทศ รวมทั้งวิจัยและพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ด้านสุขภาพระหว่างประเทศและสุขภาพโลก
(๒) ประสานความร่วมมือด้านสุขภาพระหว่างประเทศ
(๓) ผลักดันและสนับสนุนการขับเคลื่อนการดำเนินงานด้านสุขภาพระหว่างประเทศ
(๔) ปฏิบัติ งานร่วมกับหรือสนับสนุนการปฏิบัติ งานด้านต่างประเทศของหน่วยงานอื่น ที่เกี่ยวข้องหรือที่ปลัดกระทรวงมอบหมาย
