นายกราชบัณฑิตยสภาและอุปนายกราชบัณฑิตยสภา มีวาระการดำรงตำแหน่ง คราวละสองปี และอาจได้รับเลือกใหม่อีกได้ แต่จะดำรงตำแหน่งเกินสองวาระติดต่อกันมิได้ ในกรณีที่นายกราชบัณฑิตยสภาหรืออุปนายกราชบัณฑิตยสภาพ้นจากตำแหน่งตามวาระ ให้นายกราชบัณฑิตยสภาหรืออุปนายกราชบัณฑิตยสภาซึ่งพ้นจากตำแหน่งคงอยู่ในตำแหน่งต่อไปจนกว่า นายกราชบัณฑิตยสภาหรืออุปนายกราชบัณฑิตยสภา แล้วแต่กรณี ซึ่งได้รับเลือกใหม่เข้ารับหน้าที่
