๓. เวฬุกชาดก (๔๓) ว่าด้วยงูเวฬุกะ (ดาบสโพธิสัตว์สั่งให้ทำการเผาดาบสที่ถูกงูกัดตายแล้ว จึงกล่าวสอนหมู่ฤๅษีว่า)
โย อตฺถกามสฺส หิตานุกมฺปิโน โอวชฺชมาโน น กโรติ สาสนํ เอวํ โส นิหโต เสติ เวฬุกสฺส ยถา ปิตาติ ฯ เวฬุกชาตกํ ตติยํ ฯ ---------
ผู้ใดบุคคลกล่าวสอนอยู่ ไม่ทำตามคำสอนของผู้ปรารถนาประโยชน์ ผู้อนุเคราะห์ด้วยประโยชน์เกื้อกูล ผู้นั้นย่อมนอนตายอยู่ เหมือนดาบส ผู้เป็นบิดาของลูกงูชื่อเวฬุกะ ฉะนั้น. จบ เวฬุกชาดกที่ ๓.
ผู้ใดที่คนอื่นผู้มีจิตเกื้อกูล อ่อนโยน กล่าวสอนอยู่ ไม่กระทำตามคำสอนของบุคคลผู้หวังความเจริญ ผู้อนุเคราะห์ด้วยเหตุอันเป็นประโยชน์ ผู้นั้นย่อมถูกกำจัดนอนตายอยู่ เหมือนฤๅษีผู้เป็นบิดาของงูเวฬุกะ เวฬุกชาดกที่ ๓ จบ @เชิงอรรถ : @ คำว่า เวฬุก เป็นชื่อของไม้ไผ่ งูที่ได้ชื่อว่า เวฬุกะ เพราะนอนอยู่ในปล้องไม้ไผ่ (ขุ.ชา.อ. ๒/๔๓/๑๖)
