ให้สำนักงานเป็นหน่วยงานกลางในการส่งเสริม สนับสนุน ประสานงานการศึกษา พระปริยัติธรรม และเป็นสำนักงานเลขานุการของคณะกรรมการ มีหน้าที่ด้านงานธุรการและสนับสนุน งานวิชาการให้แก่คณะกรรมการ รวมทั้งมีหน้าที่ตามที่กฎหมายบัญญัติ และปฏิบัติหน้าที่ตามที่คณะกรรมการ มอบหมาย
