การให้มีเหรียญเฉลิมพระเกียรติหรือเหรียญที่ระลึกเนื่องในโอกาสต่างๆที่เห็นสมควร เพื่อประดับได้อย่างเครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์ ให้กระทำได้เมื่อได้รับความเห็นชอบจากคณะกรรมการตาม มาตรา ๔แล้ว เล่ม ๑๒๒ ตอนที่ ๔๘ ก การให้มีเหรียญเฉลิมพระเกียรติหรือเหรียญที่ระลึกตามวรรคหนึ่ง ให้ตราเป็นพระราชกฤษฎีกา โดยให้กำหนดรายละเอียดของลักษณะเหรียญ บุคคลผู้มีสิทธิประดับเหรียญ วิธีการประดับเหรียญ การสร้างเหรียญและกิจการอื่นที่จำเป็น
