ครุฑทั้งหลายเรียกว่า สุบรรณ เพราะปีกมีสีสวย.
สูตรที่ ๑ แม้ในสุปัณณสังยุตนี้ พระผู้มีพระภาคเจ้าก็ตรัสไว้ในเพราะเป็นเหตุเกิดของเรื่องตามนัยแรกนั่นเอง.
