วัฑฒิสูตรที่ ๔ พึงทราบวินิจฉัยดังต่อไปนี้.
บทว่า อริยาย ได้แก่ มิใช่ของปุถุชน. คำนี้ตรัสไว้ ก็เพราะคละกับด้วยธรรมทั้งหลายมีศีลเป็นต้น.
บทว่า สาราทายี จ โหติ วราทายี ความว่า ย่อมเป็นผู้ยึดไว้ได้ซึ่งสาระและส่วนประเสริฐ. อธิบายว่า ย่อมยึดไว้ซึ่งสาระของกาย และส่วนประเสริฐของกายนั้น.
