ราชบัณฑิต ได้แก่ ภาคีสมาชิกซึ่งนายกรัฐมนตรีจะได้นำความกราบบังคมทูล เพื่อทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ แต่งตั้งเป็นราชบัณฑิตในประเภทวิชาสาขาใดสาขาหนึ่งที่อยู่ในหน้าที่ของ ราชบัณฑิตยสภาโดยคำแนะนำของราชบัณฑิตยสภา
