ราชบัณฑิตที่อยู่ในตำแหน่งซึ่งไม่สามารถปฏิบัติหน้าที่ได้ตามปกติเพราะเหตุชรา พิการ หรือทุพพลภาพ และราชบัณฑิตที่พ้นจากตำแหน่งเพราะเป็นคนไร้ความสามารถหรือคนเสมือน ไร้ความสามารถ ซึ่งสำนักที่ราชบัณฑิตผู้นั้นประจำอยู่มีมติว่าอยู่ในฐานะที่ควรอนุเคราะห์ ให้มีสิทธิได้รับ เงินอุปการะพิเศษตามระเบียบราชบัณฑิตยสภา
