คำว่า มาฆะ นี้เป็นนามของท้าวสักกะ. ท้าวสักกะนั้นแล ชื่อว่าวัตรภู เพราะอรรถว่าครอบงำผู้อื่นด้วยวัตรแล้วถึงความเป็นใหญ่. อีกอย่างหนึ่ง ชื่อว่าวัตรภู เพราะอรรถว่า ทรงครอบงำอสูรที่ชื่อว่าวัตรภู.
